Utilities and Tools • App Update Check

This is a fairly simple set up, but you need to know how to use WebParser to obtain info from web sites.
Each skin requries the use of a file called ".Common.inc" which you shouldn't need to touch at all when creating your own app update skin files.

I've included two Template files:
  • "- Template.inc" is a default blank ReadOnly file for backup purposes, in case you forget to back up the one below.
  • "Template.ini" is to be used by you. It's identical to the one above.
Instructions for set up:
  • Copy and paste either template above, into the same directory they are in, then rename it to whatever you want. I'd advise a simple and brief name.
  • Add a web address in the App#Site variables. (Exchange the # for the specific app number throughout.)
  • Set App#Debug=2 to get the web page script. Don't forget to delete the "2" after obtaining the info!
  • Find your apps version number and download link and enter the RegEx info into App#RegEx.
  • Some websites display a download link before the version number some vice versa, so you have to set the two StringIndex's on each of the app Measures yourself I'm afraid. The Measures for these are named App#Download and App#Latest. So once you know which order they are obtained, you then specify the StringIndex for each of the two App# Measures accordingly.
Instructions for usage:
  • Click the small icon on the Title bar to refresh the skin.
  • The "Contents" column uses the FileView Plugin and so is easier to add new items into this list.
A total of 15 items are displayed and the list is scrollable. Right click an item to edit the file.
  • To the right is the main list of apps. A maximum of 20 items are displayed.
The "Heart" icon can be clicked to show it as a favourite item.
Next to it is the Download button, described below.
You'll noticed a small green icon that tells you that you have the latest update. New updates will turn this icon red.
Then the app name. Left clicking this will update the version number and the download link for that app.
Right clicking it will open the assigned web page in your browser.
  • At the bottom is a "Version" box. When you hover the right hand list of apps, it will display 3 items.
Current: Shows your currently installed version.
Latest: Displays the latest available update from the website.
Download: This takes a little explaining... If the icon state is red, this will show the CURRENT version. If the icon state is green, you will download the LATEST version. So a left click will do one of the following:
Red icon = download CURRENT version.
Green icon = download LATEST version.
Thanks to everyone on the forum who helped, and thanks to JSMorley for his patience and explanations wrt learning the WebParser plugin.:rosegift:
Enjoy!
